Greetings Internet Campus,
This week we are looking at marriage and becoming one. Today we are looking at having one heart.
Mark 12:30-31 (NLT2) 30 And you must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your mind, and all your strength.’ 31 The second is equally important: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ No other commandment is greater than these.”
What does it mean to have one heart? If you remember, last week we talked about rhythm and how we need to stay in sync with God's beat for our lives. Staying in sync is critical if we are going to be one...
In our spiritual life...and our marriage.
Having one heart as a married couple means three things...
1) We know what the other loves
2) We know what the other values
3) We know what the other feels
Do you know what your spouse loves? How did your husband/wife feel yesterday? Not what they told you...what did they really feel? What is the most valuable thing to your wife? What/who does your husband hold in high regard?
If I want to be in perfect sync...one with my wife's heart...I need to study her...pay attention to her...listen to her when she speaks to me. If you aren't doing that with your wife...you will never be of one heart. Same goes for wives...keep seeking out your husband's feelings. He may not easily express them...but you've got to keep seeking real understanding.
I love this verse:
“Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.”
We need to love at that level if we want to be of one heart. Are you loving your spouse with those qualities? Do you know what they feel, love, and value? If not...I pray that today...in your quest to be one heart...you will make an effort to start. Your marriage is worth it.
Write it Down: Today in your journal...list the 3 greatest qualities that your spouse possesses. Keep them emotional or relational (not physical). Pray that God helps you discover new ways to grow closer to your spouse's heart by focusing on his/her strengths.
See you tomorrow!
