Greetings Internet Campus,
Luke 1:38 Mary responded, “I am the Lord’s servant. May everything you have said about me come true.” And then the angel left her.
Mary was quite surprised when she was told by the angel Gabriel that she was going to give birth to the Savior of the world. Naturally. She had every reason in the book to think that she was being misled. She didn't feel worthy. She didn't see how it could possibly be true. She didn't know what would happen to her if it was...
But I love her response.
"I am the Lord's servant." Short. Simple. One little phrase that says everything about Mary's character.
With those 5 words we understand her priorities. It didn't matter that she didn't understand why...or feel worthy of God's favor...or have all of the facts...she simply stated where she stood with her Creator.
"I am the Lord's servant." - You know, as a Pastor, I talk to a lot of people who stop following God fully because they don't understand Him....or can't figure Him out...like God is some kind of finite being who can be pidgeonholed and sorted into a convenient place in the mind.
Fact is...there are going to be a lot of times in life where we aren't going to understand why...we just have to understand who we are in relation to Him. We are servants of God. We follow Him with a blank agenda...no assurances of direction...no guarantees that it will be an easy road.
We are servants of God. We are servants of His people. Keep those two things as your focus...and this Christmas will be different...I promise.
