This weekend, Pastor Troy told us that the rhythm of our life began with a beat.
"Then the Lord God formed the man from the dust of the ground. He breathed the breath of life into the man’s nostrils, and the man became a living person." Genesis 2:7
I read this verse and had a weird thought. You know that song by Billy Joel, "We Didn't Start the Fire?" The lyrics tell us that the "fire" has always been burning "since the world's been turning"...it reminded me of this verse...
Long before you were born...God started the beat. Lit the fire. Gave a rhythm for your life...a purpose. We didn't start it...we don't control it. The challenge for us is to sync up with it.
What is your purpose in life? Many don't know. But let me assure you this morning that there is one. Definitely. You were born to do something special....God made you to do it.How do we know what our purpose is? It might be easier than it sounds...our primary purpose is to honor God with our lives. Nothing else should take the place of that. All of our words, actions, and relationships should be designed and executed in such a way that people see God in us. Our secondary purpose is to serve others. That's it. Those two things...everything else that we do with our lives comes secondary to those two purposes. Love God...love others... remind you of anything?
Mark 12: 29 Jesus replied,
That's the beat. God started it long ago. When we wonder why we're here..or how to resync up with God's purpose for our lives...we need to remember who "started the fire". Love the Lord...love each other... everything else will fall right into place.
Write it Down: Today is a little different. I want you to write in your journal at the END of the day...write down 3 people that you came in contact with today that you loved like you love yourself. Tell them how much they mean to you....then thank God for them. As you're writing down these names...pray to God and tell Him how much you love Him!
See you in the morning!
Pastor Brian
