Greetings Internet Campus,
Deuteronomy 14:23 (TLB) 23 "Bring this tithe to the designated place of worship—the place the Lord your God chooses for his name to be honored—and eat it there in his presence. This applies to your tithes of grain, new wine, olive oil, and the firstborn males of your flocks and herds. Doing this will teach you always to fear the Lord your God."
Two thoughts on today's verse:
1) Bring Your Tithe to Church: The first part of the verse says the "designated place of worship." Many of us want to divide our tithes into some here...some there...some to this good cause...some to my the guy with the bucket. That isn't what the passage says....it says place of worship. Resourcing other great causes is called an offering and it can be distributed wherever you see fit. However, if we want to be obedient to God's Word, we need to bring our tithes (first 10%) to the local place of worship...your church.
2) Our Tithe Should be our Best: I am often asked...do I pay tithe on the net or the gross pay amount. I always tell them that your tithe should be paid on what you make for a living. Your gross pay is the amount that you actually earn. The net pay is what you bring home after taxes are taken out to the government. Tithe is making God first and giving your best....thus, it should be paid on the full amount...your gross pay...your best.
Thanks for staying with me this week...I know that tithing is one of those tough disciplines that seems impossible. It isn't. Be in prayer over it this week as we wrap up tomorrow.
Blessings,
Pastor Brian
