Well, we have one extra day of the year...so we will have one extra discussion about our verse of the week!
Mark 2:10c-12 (NLT2): ““Then Jesus turned to the paralyzed man and said, 11”Stand up, pick up your mat, and go home!” 12And the man jumped up, grabbed his mat, and walked out through the stunned onlookers. They were all amazed and praised God, exclaiming, “We’ve never seen anything like this before!”
Today, we're going to look at unexpected acts of God. The people in this story had no idea what they were going to see that day... Put yourself where they were. They're sitting there listening to Jesus teach (don't lose the fact that God was there physically in the house...a miracle in itself)...when all of a sudden a man is lowered down for a healing. Jesus forgives his sins...then tells him to stand up and walk away (which he does). No wonder they yelled that they'd never seen anything like that before! An understatement of Biblical proportions!
How about you? When was the last time God did something in your life that you weren't expecting? What was the last miracle that you witnessed? When was the last time you wanted to go running around shouting and praising God? For some of us...that answer comes easily...a loved one is healed, a business deal goes through at the last minute, an unexpected check arrives...
For others...it takes some looking. You can't remember the last time God did something big in your life that you weren't expecting... Here's what I'm encouraging you to do today. Look closely. Are you missing them? For example, you woke up this morning. Every day God gives us is by His grace and power. You connected to this devotional by computer....you may have a car...you may have a job...maybe you remember when your child was born...
My point...everything we get from God is a gift. We can't just look at the unexpected events as miracles. Today, February 29th, is an extra day. An extra 24 hours to fill with praising God and giving Him thanks for our daily blessings. My prayer for you today is that you actively seek all of the blessings that God has given you...and then get excited about them! Get up off your mat and walk! Jesus still does miracles!
See you this weekend on campus,
Pastor Brian
