Greetings Internet Campus,
"Freely you have received, freely give." Matthew 10:8
If you were with us yesterday, we talked about identifying five elements in our lives that may master us. Today's topic is greed- and it is something that I have been known to struggle with from time to time.
I am not the world's greatest saver...in fact...I like to buy stuff that I don't need - with money I don't have - and keep it in a house where I am running out of room. Yet, when the weekend comes around...I dive into the computer store ads like nobody's business. Looking for more...
Can you relate?
Maybe it isn't stuff...maybe it's food...maybe it's attention...we all feel greedy from time to time. Sometimes the only enough is more than enough.
But we don't have to stay that way.
The great thing about following Christ is that we don't have to be mastered by this temporary emotion called greed. Today's verse helps us to understand three things:
1) All things that we have come from God
2) We get things to give them away.
3) Greed short-circuits God's ultimate plan for our lives
When we receive what He provides...keep that...seek more...and don't give anything away... we are greedy. The greatest thing we can do with God's provision is to give thanks to Him for what He provides...and pass it along to those in need. Our money....our stuff...all meant to be leveraged to build up God's people and expand His Kingdom...
Pray for me and I'll pray for you if greed is something that you struggle with...

Pastor Brian first let me thank you for taking time out of your life to speak to the mens group last night. Tough stuff to hear but all so very true. Wanted to share I had one win on the way home. The funny part I only live maybe ten blocks away.
The topic of today the hardest thing I have had to deal with is the decision to tithe. I like to hang on to my money and to make a decsion to blindly give it was hmmmmmmmm VERY HARD. We have all heard the many excuses why not to.
But when I made the leap the feeling I had inside as I placed that first check in the bucket was sinful in it's self because I was so proud I had made the decision to allow God to worry about how that money was used. See I can at times be a control freak and it makes this walk a bit harder when I have to turn things over, but when I do Great things have happened but I must admit it's hard.
Good morning. I'm not sure what God did to Margaret & I as college students 24 yrs ago, but He put a generous & wise heart in us individually. We have been tithers since before we were married (as active Catholics). Both of our parents were very fervent about us NOT GIVING so much of our & their hard earned money, but we felt compelled. Our parents certainly taught us how to be savers & misers; especially misers - not spending money to a fault & saving as much as possible. Loving God with all of our hearts, souls, mind & strength; being tithers; & living within our means were part of a basic philsophy that we agreed on before we were married. I've always believed that it has always been the individuals relationship with God that determined their "Christianity" & not the church denomination they attended. God has been faithful to provide for all of our needs according to His glorious riches in Christ Jesus!!! AMEN
